Russian and Indian Officials Meet to Discuss Travel and Consular Services
On July 31, 2024, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov met for discussions with Indian Ambassador to Moscow Vinay Kumar. The main focus of conversation was the simplification of travel between Russia and India, including easing visa requirements, which would facilitate movement for citizens of both countries.
Additionally, Mr Ivanov and Mr Kumar discussed the possibility of opening new consulates, which would enhance diplomatic presence and provide better support for citizens travelling or living abroad. They emphasised the importance of consular cooperation, particularly in protecting the rights and interests of Russian and Indian citizens while they are in each other's countries.
This meeting is a part of a broader strategy to strengthen the long-standing relationship between Russia and India, which has been characterised by cooperation across various sectors, including defence, trade, and cultural exchange. By addressing these issues, both countries aim to improve bilateral relations, promote tourism, and encourage business.
